The Western Journal is looking to hire an Editorial Assistant. The core function of this position is to provide professional support to The Western Journal’s editorial and distribution staff. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with strong attention to detail and meticulous work ethic.

  • Perform duties requiring independent judgment and analysis related to data gathering, report preparation, and special projects
  • Communicate professionally by phone, email and in person with coworkers, external stakeholders, clients, readers, VIP guests, vendors, and others as required
  • Calendar and email management, including coordination, preparation, and follow-up for meetings
  • Handle travel preparations and management
  • Managing all business-related expenses
  • Coordinate events with external guests
  • Build an understanding of the overall flow of newsroom production and helping everything to run smoothly
  • An unpredictable amount of other random tasks that come up throughout the day
  • Coordinate building maintenance tasks including light cleaning, scheduling on site visits for repair and upkeep as well as general maintenance including scheduling handymen
  • Serve as Receptionist, including such duties as restocking coffee niches and other supplies, in Receptionist's absence
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or a minimum of three years of similar experience required
  • Excellent written English, including good spelling and grammar
  • Familiarity with Google Chrome operating system and G-suite software a plus
  • Digital media experience a plus
  • Legal work or knowledge of legal documents a plus
  • Meticulous work ethic and high attention to detail
  • Strong commitment, sense of responsibility, and trustworthiness
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Superior communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate well with others
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
